Program Participants: All BGSU faculty, adjunct instructors, graduate students, and staff are welcomed and encouraged to participate in this learning community.

Program Description:

Some of the most challenging parts of teaching can be engaging and motivating students.  This learning community aims to discuss and employ ways to encourage students.  Specifically, we will discuss how to utilize student feedback throughout the semester, how to incorporate intentional assignments to encourage a growth mindset in students, and how to ensure that the ending of the course motivates students to be life-long learners.  This learning community will provide opportunities for you to collaborate, support, and provide feedback with other instructors, while allowing you opportunities to employ what we are discussing in your own classroom.

Program Learning Outcomes:

By successfully completing this Learning Community, you will be able to:

  • Create a mid-semester evaluation that is relevant to your course/students
  • Interpret the results from a mid-semester evaluation to determine if instructional changes should be made
  • Communicate the why behind changes based on the mid-semester evaluation to students using data
  • Incorporate an exam/assignment wrapper or performance prognosis inventory to encourage students to recognize their strengths and growth opportunities after an assessment
  • Create an exam/assignment wrapper or performance prognosis inventory that is relevant to an important assignment or exam in your course
  • Create closure for their students and course using "parting-way" techniques
  • Reflect on your experience over the current semester to begin considering plans for the upcoming semester

Participant Expectations:

By participating in this Community of Practice, you agree to:

  • Meet the program learning outcomes.
  • Attend at least 75% of the synchronous meetings.
  • Complete the asynchronous tasks. The asynchronous tasks will align with the meetings and will help drive discussion.

This is a funds-eligible CFE Learning Community. Upon successfully meeting the above expectations, you may be eligible to receive $100 at the conclusion of the semester that you participate in the Learning Community. You may only participate in one funds-eligible Learning Community per semester. If a funds-eligible Learning Community is offered multiple times throughout the academic year or over multiple academic years, you may participate in the same funds-eligible Learning Community only once.
