学生 in the 历史 and 德国 program spend their first year in Salzburg, 奥地利, as regularly enrolled students at the Universität Salzburg. 学生 in the 历史 and 西班牙语 program spend their first year at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, 西班牙. The thesis is directed by a member of the 历史 faculty or by a member of the relevant language faculty; the thesis committee includes representatives from both departments.

A distinguishing feature of the Master’s programs is the high percentage of students who are funded. Successful applicants for competitively awarded research or teaching assistantships receive a stipend and waiver of tuition.
